Parasitic Draw Testing

Waiting for an hour to perform a parasitic draw test on the system without disturbing the vehicle and getting a meter hooked up in series with the negative battery cable can be frustrating to say the least. Remember that disturbing the vehicle, like opening the driver\'s door or losing the cable connection during meter connection will rest the timer requiring another 40-60min. of timeout to prove the timer circuit functions properly. One method to verify the level of draw after timeout is to use an inductive low current amp probe. Unfortunately in many cases the opening in the jaws of the amp probe will not be sufficient to surround all of the negative or positive cable. A Kent Moore parasitic draw tool (J-38758) may be used to allow a more convenient hookup of a meter but requires additional time to remove the tool prior to delivering the vehicle to the customer.
